I’m excited to share the Lilac Baby Cardigan pattern, perfect for springtime when the weather becomes warm in the direct sun but still a bit chilly in the shade.
I grew up in Rochester, NY where we knew spring was finally on the way when we could see the tulip buds shoot from the ground on our walks to school and also when the lilac trees started to bloom. Lilacs are beautiful clusters of tiny flowers with a sweet scent. When I was little we used to pick a cluster bloom, pick the individual buds, and nibble on the tip to taste the sweet nectar from the end. I just discovered that they’ve created drought resistant strains which means that they’ll grow in California! This is music to my ears because I’m working on my garden plans for this spring and was already thinking about what plants to introduce. By the way, any drought tolerant/resistant recommendations are welcome, please feel free to leave them in the comments. Stay tuned, this one will become a saga!

Lilac Baby Cardigan
The Lilac Baby Cardigan is a modern design that’s stylish but understated and easy to make. If you can make a double crochet stitch, you can make this cardigan. Caron Simply Soft yarn in Blue Lavender was selected as the color because it reminds me of the lilac blooms from my backyard as a child and because it is a beautiful and vibrant color in its own right….and also because I’ve been crocheting too many pink and orchid items lately. :-) But the best part about this yarn is that it’s machine washable and dryable. You’re welcome! :-)
Another feature of the Lilac Baby Cardigan is its versatility. The basic pattern is gender neutral so can be used to make cardigans for both girls and boys. You can dress it up or make it more casual based on the type of yarn you select (e.g., cotton vs acrylic) and based on the color(s) used, just be sure to match the stated gauge. The Lilac Baby Cardigan is perfect for those times you need a cardigan pattern that the baby can wear with several outfits.
If you are looking for a pattern to make as a gift or to make for a little one in your life, look no further than the Lilac Baby Cardigan!
Happy Crocheting!
